Get set for L’Aventure Michelin

L’Aventure Michelin spreads over two levels of a former industrial

space of 2,000m², on the Cataroux site.

The original architecture, dating back to the beginning

of the 20th century, has been preserved.

These thematic and chronological exhibitions are dedicated to the past,

present and future of the Michelin Group.

Its superb design allows all visitors to enjoy L’Aventure Michelin with the curiosity and wonder that come with any age. Entertaining and informative, the many interactive modules can be used by visitors to build their own personal experience.

You walk into Michelin’s vision of Mobility as soon as you step into the entrance hall. The 'Micheline' railcar, emblematic of the 1930s, together with a Bréguet plane – the World War One’s 'victory plane' – invite you to begin your journey.

Here, you will listen in on a conversation between the two visionary brothers; a little further, you will come across a unique collection of tires demonstrating just how far we have come since 1889.

A flight of steps installed inside an enormous Michelin Man leads to a unique collection of posters and objects presented by the jolly ambassador of travel himself.

There is an abundance of surprises throughout L’Aventure :
The Michelin Man-fountain from the first swimming pool in Clermont, a map of the famous so-called “nail race”- an extremely rare 5-metre long document, the “Eclair”, which took part in the world’s first ever motorcar race, a rare example of the “Semelle” tread tire, created in 1905 to counter the risk of skidding, the Aviation Cup awarded from 1908 to the aviator who managed to travel the greatest distance, the moto-roue (miniature of a motorbike incorporated inside a tire) from the Tour de France of the 1990s, a replica of the merry-go-round from 1895 highlighting the advantages of using an air-inflated tire rather than an iron wheel, the 1944 Normandy Landings Guide – used on D-Day by landing soldiers unfamiliar with the country–, the “fly cage” tire X prototype, the “centipede”, an in-house test vehicle, etc.

Once you’ve become a mobility expert, as you undoubtedly will during your visit, you will be ready to identify yourself to a tire tester working at the Michelin Technology Center.
Seated before a screen in a bucket seat, with your safety belt fastened, you can choose from three test circuits, depending on your mood: speed, wet tracks or corners.

You will then be all set for a full-scale track test experience!

Finally and for the first time, a passage through the 'tire school' will offer you a glimpse of how one of the car’s most misunderstood components, namely the tire, is manufactured with more than 200 different materials.
As you leave, you will be able to purchase a souvenir from L’Aventure Michelin boutique, a reminder of your wonderful journey to the heart of 'a Better Way Forward'.

No matter how you get home, your understanding of mobility will have changed for ever!!
